Towards the digital transformation of Cyprus' building sector

Collaboration between Frederick University and Euphyia Tech Company leads to the "Initiating a Digital Building Logbook in Cyprus" project. 

The "Initiating a Digital Building Logbook in Cyprus" project, funded by the Innovation Voucher, aims to incentivize and foster further research in the technological and scientific communities focusing on building information modeling (BIM), smart readiness indicators (SRI), energy performance certificates (EPC), and related themes. The project seeks to facilitate the digital transformation of the building sector by creating a unique networking platform and encouraging collaboration. This endeavor was made possible through the fruitful partnership between Frederick University (FredU) and Euphyia Tech Company (Euphyia). The primary objective was to expand Euphyia's range of services for smart buildings and integrate their tools for assessing building intelligence into digital building logbooks.

FredU, a dynamic and vibrant private university specializing in the built environment, played a pivotal role in the project. The University offers extensive experience in research and consulting projects, demonstrating best practices in extracting building-related information for the digital building logbook (DBL). It also provides expertise in utilizing APIs from BIM documents and implementing functional decomposition of different layers for DBL architectures.

Euphyia, as a participant in the advisory team responsible for evaluating the Smart Readiness Indicators methodology for the European Commission, held ultimate authority and responsibility for ensuring the project's successful completion. Euphyia received valuable assistance and support from Frederick University, particularly in identifying data extraction practices from BIM documents for DBLs and designing the blueprint architecture for the overall DBL CY framework.

The project's findings highlight the practicality of using BIM documents as the foundation for the digital building logbook (DBL). The findings also identify the need for additional elements to create a comprehensive DBL and demonstrate the successful integration of this information into a cohesive framework. Furthermore, the project provides detailed technical descriptions of the overall DBL CY solution, including specifications and guidelines for seamlessly integrating the various components using a loosely coupled micro-service-oriented approach.
