Christakis Onisiphorou is an Assistant Professor in Geotechnical Engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering at Frederick University. He is also the Coordinator of the Quantity Surveying program of the Department and Head of the Soil Mechanics Laboratory Unit. His research publications and interests are in the fields of stochastic analysis of soils using finite elements, risk analysis and reliability-based design in geotechnical engineering applications, the computational modelling of uncertainty and spatial variability in soils, and random field characterisation of soil heterogeneity. He has obtained his Ph.D., M.Sc. and B.Sc. (Hons.) degrees at the University of Manchester, UK. His PhD thesis topic was “Stochastic Analysis of Saturated Soils using Finite Elements”. He currently teaches several courses including Engineering Geology, Soil Mechanics, Geotechnical Engineering, Geotechnical Design, Marine Geotechnical Engineering, Geotechnical Analysis. His work includes several publications and he is an expert reviewer for scientific journals and EU programs in his field. He has also presented his research work in prestigious European and International conferences. Dr Onisiphorou has also acquired significant practical design experience working as a Civil/Geotechnical Engineer at Andreas A. Papadopoulos & Associates in the fields of Geotechnical Design, Earthquake Strengthening of Foundations and Structures, Structural Design in Steel and Reinforced Concrete, Stormwater and Sewerage networks, Coastal Engineering. He is also a member of the Cyprus Association of Civil Engineers, the Cyprus Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, and the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber.
