Dr T. Leontiou is currently a lecturer in the General Department. He holds a Bachelors Degree in Physics from the University of Manchester Institute of science and Technology (UMIST), which he received in 2000. After graduating from UMIST he received an Overseas Research Scholarship (ORS) and continued his studies where he eventually received his Doctorate (Ph.D.) in 2004 from the University of Manchester. His PhD thesis was based on the computational study of the quantum many-body problem in nuclear physics through the use of Monte Carlo methods. During the academic year 2004-2006 he worked as a postdoctoral associate at the University of Cyprus in field of Lattice Quantum Chromodynamics. In particular he was involved into calculations of various hadronic matrix elements. During the academic year 2007-2008, and through his position as special teaching staff at Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) he got involved in research in the field of Solid State Physics involving the study of thermodynamic and equilibrium properties of dislocated quantum wells, which is still ongoing. In the field of LQCD he is currently involved into the study of the nucleon excited states through the generalized eigenvalue problem. New collaborations at Frederick University involve the optimization of heat transfer problems.
