Chrisa Nitsiou is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Educational Sciences at Frederick University in Cyprus. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, at the Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki, in Greece in 1995. She continued with her graduate studies at the University of Minnesota, in the U.S.A. where she received her Master’s and Doctorate Degrees in Educational Psychology, with a Minor in Early Childhood Special Education, in 1997 and 2000 respectively. During her doctorate studies, as well as during her professional career, she participated in and she conducted various research projects regarding the development of assessment procedures for measuring children’s growth in all areas of development. Currently Chrisa Nitsiou’s research interests involve the inclusion of children with special needs and abilities in the mainstream classroom and society in general. Her research interests also include the identification of the conditions in which the learning and emotional needs of culturally distinct students are met within the Cypriot public school system, as well as the development of cultural awareness, so as to enable educators to appreciate the distinctiveness of each student within the educational system. Throughout her career Chrisa Nitsiou has also made a substantial social contribution since she has given various talks as an invited speaker in different schools regarding topics pertinent to her research interests and specialization.
