Research at Frederick University

Frederick University assigns great emphasis to academic research and promotes the advancement of research and creative output of its faculty members. A key principle of the university is to enhance its standing as a great research institution by creating a vibrant center of research of international standards.

The University's academic staff is involved in a wide range of research activities in various disciplines, such as engineering, information technology, social sciences, finance and education. The research initiatives and activities that are being carried out by its faculty place the University among the most successful organisations in Cyprus with respect to the level of financial support received for research projects from local (such as Research Promotion Foundation) and European Union sources. Frederick University is equipped with contemporary research facilities, which are vital for the successful implementation of research projects and for the education of its students.

Frederick Research Center

Frederick University enjoys close relations with Frederick Research Center, a non profit organization which focuses on the promotion of academic research. Since 1995, Frederick Research Center provides a research-oriented environment and facilities for faculty members and other research scientists to initiate, explore and develop basic and applied research. At the same time, FRC aims at encouraging and developing the richest possible learning environment for outstanding undergraduate and postgraduate studies. Frederick Research Center collaborates with other research centers around the world for the advancement of science. It participates in projects funded by the Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation, the European Union, the Cyprus Government, the United Nations, business and industry. FRC also carries out research sponsored by the University. FRC publishes the Cyprus Journal of Science and Technology, a biannual publication that hosts a broad spectrum of scientific papers in a wide range of fields, including information technology, engineering, education, humanities and social sciences, the arts and more.

Frederick Research Center promotes the involvement of students of Frederick University Cyprus in research programs and facilitates the implementation of students' final projects. Frederick University students, under the supervision of their academic advisers, actively participate in scientific research projects, gaining invaluable research experience.

During the last few years more than 45 research projects were finalised or are under development. Most of these projects receive external financial support from sources such as the European Union and the Research Promotion Foundation of Cyprus. These projects were evaluated in a pool of proposals submitted by many eminent international research institutions and they succeeded in receiving funding in a very competitive environment. Today, more than 50 scientists are actively involved in basic and applied research projects.
