  1. This course attempts a theoretical and practical approach to the passive solar building design and techniques in traditional architecture in the Mediterranean region, understanding the principles adapted in achieving the optimization of living conditions.

Course Contents

The aim of the course is to givestudents the knowledge on the techniques of passive heating, cooling and ventilating that werepracticed for hundreds of years in traditional architecture such us:

·        Proper Solar Orientationtowards South to achieve light and warmth

·        The utilization of directsolar gains during winter season.

·        Minimising solar gains induring summer period

·        Shading windows and shading techniques

·        Construction methods and theselection of proper materials

·        Thermal mass

·        Cross ventilation
