Learning Outcomes of the course unitBy the end of the course, the students should be able to:
  1. To introduce students to the core principles and methodologies behind producing quality video outputs using single camera techniques, with emphasis on TV news reports.
  2. To learn editing theory and aesthetics, and to examine the major Non-Linear editing systems.
  3. To exhibit visual awareness by using generally accepted principles of video production and editing and proper use of audio in order to tell a story efficiently while maximizing viewers’ interest.
  4. To develop research and critical thinking skills as students research the content for their projects, visualise camera shots, write their voice over, and search beyond the classroom for resources to complete projects.
  5. To develop and produce TV news report from inception to finish through pre-production planning, hands-on production, and post-production, based on thorough journalistic research on every sector of news (political, economic, social, ets).

Course Contents

EFP Camera Operation, Familiarization with equipments, Video Formats, Camera aesthetics, Shot Compositions, Demonstration and hands on shooting.

The nature of editing, Non-Linear Editing System operation.

Shooting Dialog Scene & Interviews, Shooting Covering Footage, Cut – aways and coverage.

Interviewing techniques for television.

Researching for television reporting. Economic topics, political, social, sports, etc. Live News coverage.

Creating a Visual Story, Shooting pictures to words.

Voice-over and narration recording, Editing pictures to words.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The taught part of the course is delivered to the students by means of lectures, conducted with the help of live presentations within the Audiovisual Lab.

During laboratory sessions, students develop functional techniques concerning tv reporting and manage to produce and edit completed projects.
