| Learning Outcomes of the course unit | By the end of the course, the students should be able to:- Explain the historical configuration of European Union, the structure, operation and the role of institutional bodies of European Union.
- Use the knowledge for the historical development and the institutional frame of European Union in order to explain the political and socio-economic unificating activities, the developments and tendencies of European Union.
- Analyze the developments in the space of European Union and their likely effects in the international space and particularly in our region, in Cyprus and in the Cypriot problem.
- Evaluate the political and socio-economic questions in the space of European Union and develop the faculty of conduct of exploratory journalism for European subjects.
- Create journalistic texts, news, reportage, analyses, articles, comments on European subjects and be able to present them in the Means of Mass Communication.

Course Contents | Foundation of European Economic Community: The idea of united Europe, the foundation, structure and operation of European Economic Community.
Institutional bodies of European Union: The role and the powers of European Committee, European Council, European Parliament and European Court.
Economic and Monetary Union: The European Monetary System, the European Monetary Unit, the treaty of Maastricht, Euro.
Process of enlargement of European Union: Decisions of European Council Helsinki, criteria of integration, European Vested.
Cyprus and European Union: The relations of European Union and Cyprus, [Teloniaki] Union 1972, the application of integration of Cyprus, the process of harmonisation and the integration of Cyprus on the 1st of May 2004.
Cyprus problem and European Union: The places of European Union in the Cypriot problem, the application of integration of Turkey and its obligations toward Cyprus and European Union. |
