Learning Outcomes of the course unitBy the end of the course, the students should be able to:
  1. Explain the process of collection of information, the sources of news and the use of reversed pyramid, as the beginning of journalistic writing.
  2. Use knowledge and dexterities for the writing of simple histories with titles.
  3. Analyze the reasons that social and other factors influence the content of news and that with their line the news influences the society. They should comprehend the relation between reality and news.
  4. Evaluate the news according to the topicality and their way of writing.
  5. Distinguish and justify when news is good written and when news is ready to be published or not.
  6. Propose subjects for research, news or even articles.

Course Contents

Journalism, History and Development:  What is journalism, its appearance and historical development.

Society, Policy and Journalism:  The role of Journalism as “fourth power”, the changes and the role of Mass Media Communication in the modern era.

Journalism and Public Opinion:  The role of Journalism in the configuration of Public Opinion and the bidirectional relation of citizen and Mass Media Communication.

News:  What’s news, the structure of news, principles of writing of journalistic texts.

Interview:  The importance of Interview, types of Interviews and their technique, reception and presentation of Interview.

Journalism and New Technologies:  The press, the electronic media, new technologies, the modern journalism and online journalism.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The teaching methods that we are using during the lesson periods are lectures, discussions, power point presentation, individual and group projects. Lectures are supplemented with film presentations and panel discussions.
