Learning Outcomes of the course unitBy the end of the course, the students should be able to:
  1. Develop skills leading to correct oral expression of the Greek Language.
  2. Develop skills leading to correct written expression of the Greek Language.
  3. Use correct grammar and syntaxis of the Greek language.
  4. Get acquainted with the characteristics of the journalistic language.
  5. Detect common mistakes in the use of journalistic language.
  6. Be able to write texts for print and audiovisual media.
  7. Develop writing for pioneer journalistic texts.

Course Contents

Introduction to the evolution of human speech. From Aristotle to Papadis. The characteristics and benefits of speech for human beings.

Journalistic Language Compared to Language in Literature. Differences.

Oral and written texts. The transfer of oral text to written and written text to oral for the use in the various media.

The correct use of the Greek Language. Grammar and Syntaxis. Common mistakes made by reporters. Passive Voice, Adjectives, Nouns. Common use of phrases in classical greek by journalists and their meaning.

Writing the text for the different kinds of the media. Main article, Feature article, Political Analysis, Profile. Writing on the internet, writing for the radio and the television. Differences among writing for print and audiovisual media

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Students are taught by means of face to face lectures, lecture notes prepared by the instructor are available in print combined with a rich list of recommended bibliography apart from the use of the main textbooks.
