| Learning Outcomes of the course unit | By the end of the course, the students should be able to:- Describe the development of community studies and recognise the special characteristics of various approaches.
- Identify the differentiations among various communities based on the type and kind of each community.
- Uphold the fundamental ethical guidelines of the profession while preparing the community intervention.
- Recognise the significance and the value of social values, and their importance during the implementation of the intervention.
- Combine roles with the relevant skills and approach techniques both for target groups and circumstances.
- Identify the particularities and problems of multicultural communities, such as racism, integration and tolerance. Distinguish differences and explain ways of handling the problems.
- Analyse the particular characteristics of each area and assess the manner of implementing the required intervention for development or change.

Course Contents | • Historical and conceptual context in the field of community: fundamental principles, values, roles and skills in the practice of social work with communities.
• Structure, elements and ways communities operate, and fundamental operational characteristics of society based on the conflict and consensus models.
• Methodological approaches of social development, social change, civil society and collective action.
• Introduction to the essential approach techniques and practice in the field of community.
• Characteristics of vulnerable population groups and the way they affect the operation of the community.
• The concept of power, power centres in the community, characteristics of managing power, social change and conflict, socioeconomic, political and cultural particularities.
• Methodological approaches of social development and action based on the particular characteristics of each community.
