Library Service

The Library Service is responsible for supporting users with up to date access to academic information and related services.

Frederick University operates well-equipped libraries at both the Nicosia and Limassol campuses with a wide range of printed and electronic resources. Students have free and immediate access to books, journals, periodicals, DVDs and CDs. Services include book lending, inter-library loaning, use of photocopiers, computers and Internet access. The library subscribes to important international scientific journals and periodicals and to search bank database services via the Internet.

The referencing system of both the Nicosia and Limassol campus libraries is computerized, conforming to the MARC standard, and can be accessed, as well as the Open Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) via terminals from any building within the campus. Library information is also linked with the university extranet system where students have access. General-purpose PCs are available in both library buildings. Access to the Internet and to electronic mail is also available. An expert team of librarians help the general public and students utilise the libraries information resources. They are ready to assist with specialized inquiries and guide users to relevant information sources.

All members of the University, (students, academic and administrative staff and researchers) are entitled to use the Library as long as they are holders of the University Card that allows access to all Library collections. The library is also open to the general public but without lending facilities.

The Nicosia Library:

The Nicosia Library is the main library of the University. It is large and fast growing with a substantial collection of books, academic journals and general interest periodicals as well as a wealth of electronic and digital material. The Nicosia Library also holds a rare collection of Cypriot Newspapers covering the period beginning with the independence of Cyprus in 1960 and leading up to the Turkish invasion of 1974.

The Nicosia Library operates on Monday-Friday, 8:00am-6:00pm.

The Limassol Library:

The Limassol Library contains similar facilities to the Nicosia Library, but a smaller volume of books, journals and periodicals. Users can obtain materials beyond the Limassol collection from the Nicosia Library through the inter-library loan service.
The Limassol Library operates on Monday- Friday 8:00am-4:00pm and on Saturday 9:00am-12:00pm.

Library Service - Service Organisation

The Library service aims to provide high-quality services to the University students and members of faculty to find, access and retrieve scientific information. The main functions include:

  • Providing support  to library users
  • Administration of printed and electronic materials
  • Documentation of library resources
  • Preparation of library budget and coordination with the University schools and departments

User Support

Responsible to provide all library users (students, faculty, general public) with:

  • information regarding access to library material,
  • searching for resources and using the library information system,
  • providing and enforcing regulations regarding library use and   
  • running the book lending service to eligible users

Administration of printed and electronic materials

Responsible for:

  • Maintaining links with publishing houses and informing the academic departments and research units of the university of new publications.
  • Ensuring the proper establishment and follow-up of subscriptions to periodicals and access to electronic resources
  • Informing all interested parties on new service possibilities available relevant to access to library resources
  • Establishing links with other national and international libraries for the fuller and more effective running of the library services

The Cyprus Oral History & Living Memory Project
