The program introduces and familiarizes students with a broad range of Accounting and Finance disciplines. The program is designed to provide students with the fundamental principles needed to start a career in accounting and finance whether it be in the profession, industry or the public sector. The courses offered through the program constitute a balance between the academic and practical directions. The program also lays the foundation for postgraduate studies and for professional studies in accounting.

 The language of instruction is English.


Key Learning Outcomes

  1. Define, evaluate and implement criteria according to which economic decision makers are defined and relate them to the analysis of the accounting environment to identify perspectives.
  2. Identify, evaluate and analyse constitutional characteristics and functional areas of organisations and their relations (i.e. goals and objectives, ownership, size, structure, logistics, finance, human resource)
  3. Recognize and assess the impact of micro- and macroeconomic determinants of organizations’ decision making (i.e. allocative and technological efficiency, profitability and market competitiveness, financial and monetary institutions).
  4. Evaluate and implement principles of law and apply them in accounting practices.
  5. Examine and assess the performance of financial markets and institutions
  6. Identify and analyze the purpose and objectives of corporate governance and evaluate the roles of external parties involved in it.
  7. Comprehend follow and implement existent and new technology and its impact for new / future markets.
  8. Identify, implement and master adequate tools for articulating and solving accounting problems.
  9. Build and critically examine accounting reports and professionally analyze related problems.
  10. Master and assess audit of an organisation and design consultancy plans (i.e. tax law, investment, case studies, project work)
  11. Appraise corporate and personal ethical stances and critically assess the determinants of the cultural context of ethics and corporate social responsibility

Exemptions from Professional Examinations

Significantly, students obtaining the degree of BA in Accounting and Finance are also exempted from professional examinations of various accounting professional bodies:

  • 9 out of 14 examinations of the Association of Chartered and Certified Accountants (ACCA)
  • 8 out of 15 examinations of the Association of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (ACAEW)
  • 12 out of 16 examinations of the Association of International Accountants (AIA)

The above exemptions pave the way for graduates to obtain professional qualifications that are invaluable for a career in accounting.

Occupational Profiles of the Graduates

The graduates of the Program acquire knowledge and skills required for starting a career in accounting and in the financial sector. They fulfil the requirements for employment in the public and private sectors as accountants, assistant managers, or assistant financial analysts. They can also be employed in the industry, in banks, cooperatives, semi-governmental bodies and in areas related to accounting and finance.

The graduates of the Program can also be employed as educators in public or private secondary schools.
