The program is addressed to professionals of various specialities and aims to equip them with the knowledge, skills, attitudes and expertise needed to enable them to successfully develop and implement innovative educational programmes in health education and health promotion in educational and health settings and the community.

The programme will provide opportunities for thorough examination of theoretical, practical and educational issues related to health and will develop professionals that are competent in applying health education and health promotion activities and programmes and strategies in formal and non-formal educational settings. Students will be equipped with advanced research skills and research in the fields of health education and health promotion will be promoted.

The language of instruction is Greek.

Key Learning Outcomes

Students are expected to:

  1. Become competent professionals in implementing health education and health promotion activities, programmes and strategies that are relevant to the characteristics of the Cypriot society.
  2. Identify contemporary global, regional and local health issues critically analyse them and integrate them in health education and health promotion activities, programmes and strategies.
  3. Develop the necessary philosophical and methodological instruments for identifying and critically analysing fundamental issues that arise during the process of selecting priorities and methodologies for the development of health education and health promotion programmes.
  4. Develop interdisciplinary networks from various scientific and professional areas and promote discussion of issues related to health education and health promotion.
  5. Promote theoretical and applied research in the areas of health education and health promotion in Cyprus.
  6. Design, implement and evaluate research activities in the fields of health education and health promotion using sound research questions, appropriate research methodologies, literature review and reliable methods of data collection and analysis.
  7. Develop and apply innovative educational methodologies, teaching methods and techniques that enable the integration of various health, ethical, social and pedagogical issues in health education and health promotion.
  8. Develop and implement activities and programmes for the training of health professionals, educators and other related professionals, in health education and health promotion in both formal and non-formal settings.
  9. Effectively integrate information and communication technologies (i.e. multimedia, computer mediated communication) into formal and informal educational programmes for health education and health promotion.
  10. Make effective use of media for raising public awareness in areas related to health.
  11. Collaborate with the local community, parents, local authorities, the private and public sector and all interested parties, for the development of strategies and programmes that would effectively promote health.

Occupational Profiles of the Graduates

The Master in Health Education and Health Promotion is designed for Educators from all levels of formal education (pre-school, primary education, secondary education, technical professional education), Health professionals (doctors, nurses, health visitors, psychologists), social workers and other professionals employed in the areas of health education and health promotion in public or private organisations, local authorities and NGOs.

Graduates of the Programme can be employed in all levels of public or private schools, hospitals, health centres, NGO’S, local authorities, and the community (i.e: youth centres).
