The Michael Frederickou Excellence Awards 2021-2022

A series of awards will be granted to academic staff that have taught in the current academic year. The awards will be granted on specific themes that reflect the university goals with particular emphasis on student-centered learning and innovation in higher education teaching.

Criteria - Strategic themes

Submissions should demonstrate how the nominee’s activities contribute to at least one of the following strategic themes:

  • Hybrid teaching
  • Inspiring and Innovative teaching
  • Students' Sense of Belonging

All submissions should consider the extent to which students are engaged in a form of partnership.

Hybrid teaching
This award recognises a faculty member who has used hybrid teaching in an interesting and engaging way. This may include, but is not limited to:

  1. Using best practices in applying a student-centered approach to in-class teaching as well as online course facilitation and presence.
  2. Exploring new, creative, and innovative strategies, methodologies, digital tools, & technologies, guided by the course learning outcomes.
  3. Design and implementation of both in-classroom and online activities, exercises amd assignments, and assessments that are meaningful, purposeful, and relevant to the course learning outcomes.
  4. Using a variety of both in-classroom and online methods to assess master of course content, and development of student learning and skills.

Inspiring and Innovative teaching
This award recognises a faculty member who has used new, interesting and engaging ways to teach their content.This may include, but is not limited to:

  1. Introducing new and exciting methods to their teaching.
  2. Delivering innovative and dynamic content which examines a range of perspectives.
  3. Creating an interactive and collaborative learning environment by employing novel teaching approaches, assessment methods, activities, technologies and/or educational materials.
  4. Inspiring curiosity, creativity and a love of learning through their teaching / support of student learning.

Students' Sense of Belonging
This award recognises a faculty member, who has provided excellent support for teaching and learning.
This may include, but is not limited to:

  1. Inspiring confidence and support students sense of purpose in relation to their studies and career aspirations.
  2. Demonstrating their enthusiasm for their subject and delivering content in a way that motivates students to connect to their discipline.
  3. Supporting students to participate as co-creators and partners in their learning.
  4. Helping students connect and integrate with the University and campus community.

Procedure

Applicants can take part in the selection process in 3 ways:

  1. Self-nominate: Interested applicants should submit an application by completing the Application Form by the 5th of June 2022.
  2. Be nominated by a colleague: Applicants can be recommended by other colleagues by completing the Nomination Form  by the 29th of May 2022. Applicants who have been recommended by other colleagues will be informed so as to submit their application electronically as described above.
  3. Be nominated by students: Applicants can be recommended by at least 3 of their students by completing the Nomination Form  by the 29th of May 2022. Applicants who have been recommended by students will be informed so as to submit their application electronically as described above.

Eligibility

Any faculty member, part-time or full-time that has taught in conventional or distance learning programs of study in the academic year 2021 - 2022 is eligible to apply.

An award for the best postgraduate student thesis per School will be granted.
The process and decision will be taken by the School Council.
A series of awards will be given to individual researchers or research teams that excelled in promoting the university’s strategic goals with respect to research.

Criteria - Strategic themes

Submissions should demonstrate how the nominee’s activities contribute to at least one of the following strategic themes:

  • impactful research activity in terms of academic publications and impact factor,
  • engagement of students and young researchers in research,
  • attraction of international collaborations and funding.

Emphasis should be given on recent achievements.

Procedure

Applicants can take part by Self nomination.Interested applicants should submit an application by completing the Application Form by the 5th of June 2022.

Eligibility

Any researcher or faculty member employed in the academic year 2021 - 2022, part-time or full-time is eligible to apply.

The University will award

  • practices or activities from Frederick University faculty, staff, students and alumni that show significant impact with respect to SDGs or
  • outstanding individuals (Frederick University faculty, staff, students and alumni) who are demonstrating that it is up to us to inspire and enact change.

Criteria

Submissions should demonstrate how the nominee’s activities contribute to at least one of the following:

  • Mobilize others to take action for the SDGs,
  • inspire a shift in behaviour for the SDGs,
  • connect people and/or diverse partners, bridging the gap between citizens and institutions, to increase progress on the SDGs.

Multiple awards may be given for actions relating to different SDGs.

Applicants can take part by Self nomination.Interested applicants should submit an application by completing the Application Form by the 5th of June 2022.

An award celebrating an outstanding achievement of a Frederick University student or graduate with emphasis on its impact on the community.

Procedure

Applicants can take part in the selection process in 2 ways:

  1. Self-nominate: Interested applicants should submit an application by completing the Application Form by the 5th of June 2022.
  2. Be nominated by any member of the University Community: Applicants can be recommended by any member of the University Community by completing the Nomination Form  by the 29th of May 2022.
