Sports and Leisure Facilities

he University considers athletics as an integral part of the educational process. It is a member of the Cyprus University Sports Federation and participates each year in the championships organized by the Federation. Some of the teams which participate in the championship of the federation include men’s/ women’s football, basketball, volleyball, handball and more. 

Frederick University has a modern gym at the Nicosia Campus, which is fully equipped to offer different kinds of training. Other sport activities, both in Nicosia and Limassol, are offered to the students through outsourced facilities.

Excluding the numerous opportunities that Cyprus offers for leisure activities, Frederick University aims at supporting students in order to enjoy an active and vibrant social life. Students enjoy weekend or vacation excursions to the countryside. Such outings offer opportunities to meet and socialize with fellow students and staff away from the routine of the classroom. There are also opportunities to learn traditional Cyprus dances and songs and to participate in theatrical plays. Musical evenings and folk programs are often organized at selected nightspots.

Students need to strike a balance between their academic and social involvement. The Counselling Center supports students to meet this need through participation in student clubs and societies, which give students the opportunity to participate in many social and cultural activities. Getting involved is a good way for students to meet new friends and make the most of their stay as part of the Frederick University community. Participation in clubs and societies exposes students to new life experiences, helps them develop valuable leadership skills and abilities and provides opportunities for them to express creativity and talent.

Internships

IAESTE (International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience)

The International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE) is a non-political, independent, non-governmental association maintaining a consultative relationship with several agencies of the United Nations. It aims to help students at higher education institutions with technical experience abroad relative to their studies and to promote international understanding and goodwill amongst students of all nations.

ERASMUS placement

The Erasmus Student Mobility program enables students to undertake a period of work placement in Europe of between 3 and 12 months as a part of their degree program.

 

Leonardo da Vinci

Frederick University, through the Leonardo da Vinci European Program gives graduates the opportunity to work in another European country for a period of 2 to 26 weeks. Training can take place in institutes, companies, industries, organizations etc. The program provides all participants with a grant for travel and living expenses.

 

Career Office

The Careers Office is in close link with the local market and maintains lists of job postings and internship opportunities.

The internship program enables participants to acquire precious work experience that strengthen their career prospects immediately after graduation.

Student Union
All students are de- facto members of the Student Union. The main objectives of the Student Union are to promote the general welfare of the student community, to encourage participation in the various activities at Frederick University, to broaden the educational experience of all students and to represent students at the various committees of the University. The Union is very active in promoting communication and understanding among students with different origins and cultures.

Language Courses

Greek Language Course for Incoming Erasmus Students
The Mobility Office of Frederick University gives students from all EU/EEA countries the opportunity to participate in the Erasmus Intensive Language Course of Greek language and culture.

The EILC - Erasmus Intensive Greek Language Course will be held at Frederick University (Nicosia campus only) from the 20th of August, 2012 until the 15th of September, 2012 before the Fall semester 2012/2013.

Students participating in the Course will have the opportunity to learn to speak Modern Greek and explore the rich culture of Cyprus through conversational exercises that will help them to develop their fluency. All the students will have the opportunity to enrich their vocabulary in special scientific areas according to their studies having a 5 hour special program-GSP (Greek for Special Purpose).

The School of Greek Language commenced its operation in 2009 and offers courses of Modern Greek Language and Civilization to foreign and local students in three different stages. (basic, intermediate and advanced).

Center of Languages
The Frederick Language Center supports the teaching of languages in the various faculties of the University. It offers the opportunity to all student population to learn and improve their knowledge of foreign languages. The courses offered might be either compulsory or elective. The center aims at improving the students’ communicative activities in the foreign language both socially and academically. The acquisition of the foreign language involves the development of all aspects of the language – reading, writing, listening and speaking. In the cases where the language courses are compulsory, it is essential that the students satisfy all course requirements.
