Short CV
Christakis Onisiphorou is an Assistant Professor in Geotechnical Engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering at Frederick University. He is also the Coordinator of the Quantity Surveying program. He has obtained his Ph.D., a M.Sc. in Geotechnical Engineering and a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Civil Engineering, all at the University of Manchester, UK. His PhD thesis topic was on “Stochastic Analysis of Saturated Soils using Finite Elements”. He currently teaches several courses in the School of Engineering in Bachelor and Master programs of study, in the Departments of Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. These include Geology and Soil Mechanics, Geotechnical Engineering, Geotechnical Design, Marine Geotechnical Engineering, Geotechnical Analysis, Foundations of Historical Buildings, Oil & Gas and Reservoir Characterization. His research publications and interests are in the fields of stochastic analysis of soils using finite elements, risk analysis and reliability-based design in geotechnical engineering, the computational modelling of uncertainty and spatial variability in soils, random field characterisation of soil heterogeneity. His work includes several publications and is also an expert reviewer for scientific journals in his field. He has also presented his research work in prestigious European and International conferences. Dr.Onisiphorou has also acquired significant practical design experience working as a Civil/Geotechnical Engineer at Andreas A. Papadopoulos & Associates in the fields of Geotechnical Design, Earthquake Strengthening of Foundations and Structures, Structural Design in Steel and Reinforced Concrete, Stormwater and Sewerage networks. He is also a member of the Cyprus Association of Civil Engineers, the Cyprus Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, and the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber.
