Dr Dimitra Maria Tomprou is a special education teacher with multiannual experience in assessment, planning and application of individualized intervention programs for students with Special Educational Needs. Her DPhil work in the Faculty of Primary Education of the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) focuses on the differences in language laterality among children with intellectual disability, typical developement and intellectual giftedness using behavioural and neuropsychological indices, as well as a brain imaging technique, functional transcranial Doppler ultrasound (fTCD). She also holds a MSc in MSc in Special Education, Logotherapy and Counseling from the Faculty of Primary Education of the NKUA and a BSc in Philosophy, Pedagogy and Psychology from the School of Philosophy of the NKUA. She teaches as collaborating academic staff in the Distance Learning Program of Special Education at the Department of Education and Social Sciences of Frederick University. She is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Postgraduate Program of Special Education at the Faculty of Primary Education of the NKUA In the past, she has also been an Assistant Professor in the Department of Speech and Language of the University of the Peloponnese and a collaborating academic staff in Hellenic Open University. Since 2005, she has acted as an Associate scientist of the Center for Psychophysiology and Education and the Center of Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning of the NKUA. Her research interests focus on Special education and especially on children with Developmental Disorders (Intellectual Disability, Autism Spectrum Disorder), Gifted children, Early Intervention and Educational Neuroscience. She has published papers in research journals with reviewers, has presented her work in a number of conferences in Greece and abroad and participated in research programmes related to the field of Special Education.
