Short CV
The main research activity of Dr. María Dimitropoulou López (PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience, Extraordinary Doctorate Award, University of La Laguna, 2014) has been focused on the study of neuronal correlates of monolingual and bilingual language development and processing. Early on during her academic career she aimed at getting a better insight into cognitive processing, by attending postgraduate courses on Integrative Neuroscience (Imperial College London, UK), on Cognitive Science (UoA, Greece) and on Cognitive Neuroscience and Special Educational Needs (ULL, Spain). She has pursued research excellence by collaborating with high profile researchers in Greece, Spain, the UK and the USA and by gaining expertise on research techniques such as Eye Tracking, Event Related Potentials, fMRI and behavioral techniques. She has participated in various funded research projects and obtained personal grants (Government of the Canary Islands, Spanish Government, etc.) and awards (ESCoP). She has published part of her research as original research papers on high impact international scientific journals and has presented her work in numerous scientific forums around the world. Since 2011, as part of the challenge of putting her neuroscientific knowledge on a practical ground in favor of children, Dr. Dimitropoulou has combined her research activity with her work as a neuroscientific and psychoeducational consultant both privately and in early intervention settings and has been training early childhood professionals on the application of strategies of promoting cognitive and linguistic development in the children's natural settings. Since 2016, she has also been teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses on language and cognitive processing and development, on developmental language disorders and on research methodology at the University of Athens, the Greek Open University and the International University of La Rioja.
