Women in Mathematics: Exhibition at Frederick University

As part of Frederick University’s campaign for Women in Science and the International Women’s Day, the University hosts the traveling exhibition Women in Mathematics: a gallery of portraits from around the world at its campus in Nicosia.

The exhibition was first launched in Berlin in 2016 to showcase women mathematicians in Europe. It has since expanded to feature portraits of women from around the world and has traveled to more than 130 locations in Europe, South America, Australia and Africa.

The exhibition is presented in Cyprus by the newly established network Women in Mathematical Sciences in Cyprus (WMSC), in the framework of its current social action entitled "Portraits of Women Mathematicians in Cyprus and beyond". The aim of the action is to increase the visibility and recognition of women’s contribution in mathematical sciences. The WMSC Network is the Cypriot branch of the European Women in Mathematics Network and its mission is to provide support to female scientists in the field of mathematics and other related sciences in Cyprus.

Vice president of the Network is Dr Petroula Mavrikiou, Director of the University's Gender Equality and Inclusion Research Unit and an Associate Professor at the Department of Business Administration.

Hosting this exhibition is part of Frederick University's long-term campaign to tackle the underrepresentation of girls and women in STEM fields.
