Dr. Athanasia Tziortzi is a Lecturer in Marketing at Frederick University Cyprus, Department of Business Administration teaching in the Department's undergraduate programs as well as in the Interschool postgraduate program in Health Management (conventional and distance learning).She holds a PhD in the area of Marketing (thesis title: The perceived effects of food advertising on children in Cyprus) from the University of Sheffield, an MA in Advertising and Marketing from Leeds University and a Bachelors degree from the University of Cyprus in Public and Business Administration (specialisation Marketing/Management). She has experience in developing and teaching marketing related modules including marketing principles, marketing communications, marketing research, services marketing, strategic marketing and consumer behaviour. She has also supervised numerous Bachelors’ and Masters’ theses on marketing and marketing communications related topics. She has worked as a Lecturer at Casa College and PA Collage (Cyprus) and as an instructor at undergraduate and postgraduate levels at Sheffield University (UK). Her research focus is on marketing communications, advertising directed at children, children’s understanding of advertising and the effects on advertising on children and their families. She also works on women’s empowerment issues. She has published papers on these topics in marketing related conference proceedings and won first prize for best working paper at the 2009 International Conference on Corporate and Marketing Communications. She is also the co-author of two book chapters: on advertising to children and female entrepreneurship and a case study on immigrant family entrepreneurship.
