Short CV
Dr. Chrysostomos Chrysostomou is currently an Assistant Professor with the Department of Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering and Informatics, at Frederick University, Nicosia, Cyprus, and affiliated Senior Researcher at Frederick Research Center, Cyprus. He is the Coordinator of the Computer Systems and Networks Academic Domain Unit within the Department, the Coordinator of the Smart Systems specialization of the Master’s degree in Web and Smart Systems, and the Founder and Director of the Networks Research Laboratory (NETLAB). Dr. Chrysostomou has introduced and developed syllabi for several new courses in the B.Sc. in Computer Science, B.Sc. in Computer Engineering, and M.Sc. in Web and Smart Systems departmental programs of study. He teaches courses at the abovementioned undergraduate and postgraduate programs. He is also the principal supervisor of a number of PhD students in the Ph.D. in Computer Science/Engineering departmental programs, with his first Ph.D. graduate in June 2019. Dr. Chrysostomou has received a B.Eng. in Electronic & Electrical Engineering, with First Class Honours, and M.Sc. in Telematics (Telecommunications & Software), from the University of Surrey, U.K., in 1998 and 1999 respectively. He received the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in the area of Computer Networks, from the University of Cyprus, in 2006. Prior to his current appointment, he served in a number of positions in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Cyprus from September 1999 until September 2008. In particular, he worked as a research associate and a special scientist in several research projects, and further, he worked as a Special Teaching Staff, and also as a Visiting Lecturer. Dr. Chrysostomou actively serves as a member of several Technical Program Committees of international scientific conferences, and as a referee in international scientific journals and conferences. Moreover, he is involved in the organization of international conferences. Since 2001, he has been actively involved in several European and National funded research projects. His research work has been published in more than 60 papers in international peer-reviewed scientific book chapters, journals, and conferences (more than 1650 citations with h-index: 16, source: Google Scholar), and he has given presentations in various international scientific conferences. His research interests include design and performance analysis in mobile/wireless networks, including Internet-of-Things (IoT) architectures (Industrial, Maritime, Transportation, Healthcare), communication technologies for smart systems, Device-to-Device (D2D) and cooperative multi-hop D2D communication in 5G-and-beyond networks for energy and spectrum efficiency, with energy harvesting capabilities for public safety networks. Moreover, current focus is given to reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-aided cell-free 6G networks, multi-objective optimization of radio resource allocation and beamforming for Industrial IoT in software defined networking (SDN) based virtualized fog computing radio access networks in 5G-and-beyond wireless environments, secure mobility management in maritime IoT applications, blockchain technology in communication networks, privacy-perseverance and security framework for the Healthcare IoT systems, intelligent code-offloading on edge computing-based IoT, and computational and network communication resource constraints handling in IoT. In addition, research work has been conducted in the mobility support in wireless sensor networks, in intelligent, QoS-aware mechanisms in vehicular ad hoc networks, and in the application of computer networking principles and techniques in the field of high-performance computer architecture (network-on-chip architectures).
