Mr George Papadopoulos BSc (Hons), MBA, MRICS, MCIOB, Mediator is a special teaching staff at Frederick University. He teaches in the BSc program of Quantity Surveying of the School of Engineering / Civil Engineering Department. He is one of the professionals who helped put together our BSc in Quantity Surveying degree launched in 2009. He took his own BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying degree in 1994 from The University of Salford, UK. His thesis looked into the effect of the construction industry on environmental issues like the greenhouse effect, global warming and acid rain and a paper out of it was presented to international conferences in the USA and Canada. His degree included one year of industrial placement in the UK during which he worked on a hospital project. He then spent several years (1994-2000) working in Cyprus and Libya with consultants and international contractors on major projects like petrochemical complexes, roads, factories, supermarkets and schools. During this period he also became a member of two of the most reputable professional bodies, The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB). In 2000 he went to the USA on a Fulbright / CASP scholarship and got his Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from The University of Arizona. Along with his studies he also worked as a teaching assistant in the field of marketing. In 2002 he returned to Cyprus and pursued a career with property developers in Limassol and Nicosia on major residential and commercial projects. Since the spring of 2010 he has been teaching the civil engineers and quantity surveyors of our University Construction Economics, Estimating, Contract Administration, Measurement, Dispute Resolution, Arbitration / Adjudication and Principles of Law while at the same time supervising Integrated, Measurement, Industrial Placement and Final-Year Projects. In 2016 he acquired a certificate in Mediation and in 2017-18 he was contracted by the Municipality of Limassol as a quantity surveyor / contract administrator on projects financed by the EU. Currently, along with his teaching at FU, he offers his services as a consultant Quantity Surveyor to local construction companies.
