Elena Patera has been teaching Family Law in the undergraduate programme of Social Work at Frederick University since the Spring Semester of 2008.
Ms Patera studied Law at the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens. She has been working as a professional advocate since 1990, under the supervision of the Legal Council and the Cyprus Bar Association. She worked for eighteen years at the Scordis, Papapetrou & Co LLC, practicing in the area of Family, Labor and Public Law cases in the Judicial Department. As of May 2008 she has her own law practice.
She has participated as keynote or invited speaker in conferences, educational seminars and book presentations. She has, also, attended a series of conferences, lectures and seminars organized in Cyprus on Family Law and on the institution of Mediation in Family Disputes. Since 2020 is member of the Family Law Committee of the Cyprus Bar Association. In May 2022 she was appointed as member of the Independent Authority Against Corruption by the President of the Republic of Cyprus.
Her scientific work has been published in various legal journals such as the Family Law Inspectorate (Nicosia) and the Armenopoulos Law Magazine (Thessaloniki), while in 2017 her book titled “Studies on Cypriot Family Law” was published by Nomiki Bibliothiki S.A (Athens).
In the context of teaching the subject of Family Law she has written “Family Law Lecture Notes, 5th ed. 2020” focusing on the needs of the social worker’s profession.
