Learning Outcomes of the course unitBy the end of the course, the students should be able to:
  1. Describe the basic concepts related to psychopathology, the aetiology of psychopathology and the symptomatology of mental illness.
  2. Explain different theoretical approaches and their stance towards psychopathology.
  3. Describe the various sociopolitical elements which participate in the aetiology of mental illness.
  4. Describe methods of psychosocial recovery and their application in Cyprus and abroad.
  5. Describe the symptomatology of mental illness (Axis II) according to international diagnostic systems.

Personality disorders: Borderline Personality Disorder, Antisocial Personality Disorder, Paranoid Personality Disorder, Narcissistic Personality Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder

Psychological Problems related to sexual functioning: Paraphilias, Pedophilia, Masochism, Sadism.

Childhood Disorders: Autism, Dyslexia, ADHD, Behavioral Disorders, Conduct Disorder.

Mental Health and Ageing: Depression, Stress, Alzheimer’s.

Psychiatric Rehabilitation in Cyprus and Europe.

Historical Evolution of Mental Health Services in Cyprus: Mental Health Law, Rights of the Mentally Ill.
