| Learning Outcomes of the course unit | By the end of the course, the students should be able to:- Describe the basic concepts related to psychopathology, the aetiology of psychopathology and the symptomatology of mental illness.
- Explain different theoretical approaches and their stance towards psychopathology.
- Describe the various sociopolitical elements which participate in the aetiology of mental illness.
- Describe methods of psychosocial recovery and their application in Cyprus and abroad.
- Describe the symptomatology of mental illness (Axis II) according to international diagnostic systems.

Course Contents | Personality disorders: Borderline Personality Disorder, Antisocial Personality Disorder, Paranoid Personality Disorder, Narcissistic Personality Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder
Psychological Problems related to sexual functioning: Paraphilias, Pedophilia, Masochism, Sadism.
Childhood Disorders: Autism, Dyslexia, ADHD, Behavioral Disorders, Conduct Disorder.
Mental Health and Ageing: Depression, Stress, Alzheimer’s.
Psychiatric Rehabilitation in Cyprus and Europe. Historical Evolution of Mental Health Services in Cyprus: Mental Health Law, Rights of the Mentally Ill. |
