Learning Outcomes of the course unitBy the end of the course, the students should be able to:
  1. Explain terminology for the elderly and describe demographic facts for the Aged of Europe and Cyprus
  2. Describe the process of aging and the physical and psychological conditions of old age and the consequences that nutrition may have on them
  3. Explain the emotional and social problems of the elderly and define genontophobia as well as the abuse of the elderly and its symptoms
  4. Describe the various programs and services that concern the old age in Cyprus (social welfare services and social insurance – pensions, local authorities – non governmental organizations)
  5. Describe the various roles of social workers in Gerontological practice, levels of intervention and communication
  6. Describe and explain the model of target-focus social work and its three phases
