Learning Outcomes of the course unitBy the end of the course, the students should be able to:
  1. Explain and critically discuss the descriptions, orientations and developments of social reality, experience and speculation.
  2. Develop the fundamental, consequential and conceptual relations of interpretational mechanisms of social theories to a level that enables the construction of basic social theoretical schemata and examples.
  3. Reproduction of social theories in practical situations.

Course Contents

Historical evolution of sociology as a science. The appearance of sociology. Social and spiritual background. The development of sciences, Enlightenment, Industrial Revolution.

Sociology as an essential positivistic science: Auguste Comte  (1798-1857).

The evolutionary sociological theory: Herbert Spencer (1820-1903)

Emile Durkheim (1858-1917)

Economy and Sociology, Criticism of Capitalism and the Sociology. Karl Marx (1818-1883).

The Understanding Sociology: Max Weber (1864-1920)

The idea of a morphological sociology: Georg Simmel (1858-1918)

Social Change and Elite: Vilfredo Pareto (1848-1923)

The ideas of symbolic interaction  (Mind, Self and Society): George Herbert Mead (1863-1931)
