| Learning Outcomes of the course unit | By the end of the course, the students should be able to:- Recognise the importance of the environment and of relevant concepts for sustainable development, life, viable existence and preservation.
- Comprehend the importance of the fundamental characteristics that define the relationship between nature and human activity.
- Analyse the causes and the problems caused to the environment and human life, principally as a result of human activity per sector.
- Associate the importance of population development to environmental balance, regarding proportions, limited resources and their rational utilization.
- Distinguish means of producing energy, their advantages and disadvantages and possible risks from their heedless or unsafe use.
- Plan and implement actions according to the fundamental principles of the social work profession when applied to the environmental education of citizens and the development of an environmental culture.
- Investigate the possibility of utilizing community resources for the implementation of environmental education programmes and projects for enhancing and protecting the environment.

Course Contents |
· Fundamental concepts and principles forthe environment, ecosystems and sustainable development.
· Structure, elements and operation ofelements which constitute the environment and their relationship.
· The characteristics of human activity and howit affects the environment and influences its natural operation.
· Natural resources/raw materials, energysources, food and production processes.
· Pollution and ways it ismanifested, protection measures against pollution and development ofenvironmental consciousness.
· The methodological approachesof social work for the development of environmental consciousness.
· Application of social work methods todevelop collective actions. |
