Learning Outcomes of the course unitBy the end of the course, the students should be able to:
  1. Develop social policy programmes.
  2. Formulate proposals resulting from social planning.
  3. Describe the terms of developing programmes of a social character, community intervention of national or international range.
  4. Program planning to combat severe social problems, formulation of alternative proposals, viable solution techniques, methodology for the accurate implementation of business plans.

Course Contents

     Essential approaches to social policy development.

     Significant consequences by the administration of various policies and ways in which problems arising as a result can be dealt with in a pre-planned and organized fashion.

     Planning interventions of a social character through programme development methodology. 

     Tools and techniques which facilitate planning, implementation and monitoring of programmes.

     Development of evaluation programmes in the context of development planning.

     Social research and programme evaluation research techniques.

     Sound utilization of resources.

     Programme viability enhancement techniques through planned fundraising.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

         The course is structured in order to conclude within one semester, over thirteen weekly sessions of three hours each (a total of 39 hours).

         Within the hours above and given the course’s structure significant issues pertaining to the extended community of Cypriot reality are studied and to the extent possible the subject of the course is associated with the actual operation of organizations and agencies which plan and implement programmes of social policy.  The development of open discussions and the organization of lectures and interactive activities are incorporated in the course objectives and the students are invited to organize and participate in seminars related to the course objectives.  Students are encouraged to participate in seminars, conferences or scientific and social events relevant to the subject of social policy and intervention actions for community problems.
