| Learning Outcomes of the course unit | By the end of the course, the students should be able to:- Indicate factors that interfere with the healing of trauma
- Employ appropriate nursing care interventions for the prevention of surgical wound infection and the trauma care
- List the principles of burns prevention
- Assess the nursing care needs of burned patients
- Evaluate the perioperative nursing care needs of patients with head and brain injury, spinal cord lesions, brain tumours, spinal cord tumours, chest, pelvis and hip injuries, scoliosis, limbs injuries and limbs amputate
- Practice appropriate perioperative nursing for patients undergoing surgery to treat head and brain injury, spinal cord lesions, brain tumours, spinal cord tumours, chest, pelvis and hip injuries, scoliosis, limbs injuries and limbs amputate
- Assess the needs of cardiovascular patients
- Practice appropriate nursing care for cardiovascular patients during perioperative period

Planned learning activities and teaching methods | The course is delivered to the students by means of lectures, conducted with the help of computer-based presentations. Lecture notes and presentations are available through the web for students to use in combination with the textbooks.
Lectures are supplemented with clinical practice.
During clinical teaching students are trained at cardio surgery units, burn and plastic surgery units, orthopaedic departments and chest units to develop further their clinical skills.
