Learning Outcomes of the course unitBy the end of the course, the students should be able to:
  1. Implement practical knowledge associated with providing specialized nursing care to people hospitalized in specialized units, Intensive Care Units (ICU).
  2. Explain the therapeutic approaches and the implementation of assessment and planning skills, as well as the implementation of the appropriate nursing care for critically ill patients.
  3. Organize and provide care to patients with mechanical life support, during extubation, taking blood gases, endotracheal suctioning, and catheter Billow.
  4. Assess needs and implement nursing care plans for continuous patient monitoring, taking vital signs, connecting patient with ECG, with devices CVP and, with catheter Swan-Ganz.
  5. Inform, train and supervise patients and their families on using nursing skills, interventions / activities in order to enable them for the provision of optimal care to the patient at home.

Organization of intensive therapy unit, history and critical care nursing roles     

Pathophysiology of critical ill patient

Nursing care of patient with Respiratory disease in ITU      

Nursing car of patient with Cardiovascular disease in ITU           

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation in ITU                                                                   

Nursing care of patient with kidney disease and disease of peptic system in ITU 

Nursing care of patient with Neurological and Neurosurgical disease in ITU

Monitoring invasive hemodynamic monitoring- electrocardiography     

Disorders of acid –based balance. Arterial blood gases

Infections and Sepsis in ITU – SIRS- MODS 

Nursing care of patients with Endocrine and hematological disease

Burns& trauma Shock, nursing Intervention          

Nursing care of patient with mechanical respiratory support, sedation- pain

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The taught part of course is delivered to the students by means of lectures, conducted with the help of computer presentations. Lecture notes and presentations are available through the web for students to use in combination with the textbooks.

Lectures are supplemented with laboratory work. laboratory / seminar exercises for physical examination. Clinical discussion will follow
and analysis and special education students in the simulator models.

In clinical teaching method used demonstration and guided under supervised by clinical nursing educators.
