Course Details

1. Describe the anatomy and physiology of the female reproductive system.
2. Compare changes in anatomy and physiology of the female reproductive system that can result from a normal pregnancy and abnormal ovulation, menstruation disorders and congenital anomalies of the female reproductive system.
3. Define the concepts and list the principles of genetics, family planning and fetal development.
4. Evaluate, plan and implement appropriate nursing care to adolescents and women with dysmenorrhea, premenstrual syndrome, polycystic ovarian syndrome, endometriosis, adenomyosis, gynecological infections, sexually transmitted diseases, benign and malignant diseases of the breast and the female reproductive system.
5. Assess nursing care needs during all childbirth stages and provide appropriate nursing care.
6. List the principles of monitoring the mother immediately after childbirth and implement appropriate nursing care in during childbed and newborns.
7. Provide emotional support and special counseling interventions, in cases such as loss of pregnancy and the birth of newborns with congenital anomalies.

Introduction to Gynecological Nursing Care. The female reproductive system
Congenital abnormalities of female genital mutilation, abnormal ovulation, menstruation disorders.
Nursing care for benign and malignant diseases of the female genital tract.
Nursing care for premenstrual syndrome, dysmenorrheal and polycystic ovary syndrome .
Nursing care in endometriosis and adenomyosis and pelvic floor dysfunction.
Nursing care for gynecological infections, sexually transmitted diseases (chlamydial infection, fungal vulvo-vaginitis, trichomonas vaginalis infection, gonococcal infection, syphilis, virus warts, herpes genital tract, HIV, AIDS)
Nursing care for the child - adolescent gynecology.
Nursing care in infertility (epidemiology, causes male and female infertility treatment, assisted conception).
Nursing care in the menopause.
Nursing care for a benign-malignant breast disease.
Nursing care of childbearing age.
Anatomy / physiology of the reproductive system of women and physiology of pregnancy
Genetics, family planning, conception, fetal development.
Physiology of pregnancy.
Disorders of early pregnancy (ectopic, miscarriage, pregnancy disorders of trophoblast during pregnancy).
Nursing care during pregnancy. Nutrition of pregnant. Childbirth. Assessment of the fetus.
Nursing care during childbirth. Physiological changes in the mother during childbirth.
Adaptation of the newborn. Assessment and nursing care of the newborn.
Infant feeding.
Complications during childbirth. Pregnancy risk. Risk factors during pregnancy.
Complications of childbirth. High-Risk Newborn: Problems of fetal age. Congenital anomalies. Loss of pregnancy.

The course is delivered to the students by means of lectures, conducted with the help of computer-based presentations. Lecture notes and presentations are available through the web for students to use in combination with the textbooks.
Lectures are supplemented with laboratory work and clinical practice.
During laboratory sessions, students develop their skills, taught in the lecture sessions, on simulation mannequins in: family planning and contraception, nutrition during pregnancy, physiological changes in the mother during childbirth, complications of childbirth, nursing care of the newborn, infant feeding, breastfeeding, nipple care, artificial feeding, preparing meals, special care for the bottle, care in pregnancy loss, so that they can then apply them successfully and safely at a real clinical setting.
During clinical teaching students are trained in gynecological and obstetric wards to develop further their clinical skills.
