  1. Explain the international and national policies related to security and protection of everyone in the workplace.
  2. Explain the different roles, responsibilities and functions of the nurse in implementing rules of hygiene-safety.
  3. Assess risk and actively promote the prosperity, security and protection of everyone in the workplace.
  4. Describe the procedures for hygiene-safety in practice, infection control, first-aid and emergency.
  5. Describe the requirements needs to organize a First Aid Unit in the workplace.

Introduction:  Historical development and basic principles of Hygiene and Work Safety

Occupational Accident – Occupational Illness: Terminology, Assessment and Prevention of occupational hazard in relation to employees’ health and safety. Related Legislation

Natural factors in the nursing workplace: Microclimate (Thermic environment, Ventilation), Light and Lighting, Noise, Vibration. Safety measures. Electromagnetic fields. Electricity. Radiation. Visual Display Equipment. Safety measures.

Chemical factors in the nursing workplace: Minerals, Solvents and related diseases. Dust, Gases and related diseases. Acceptable thresholds. Safety measures.

Biological factors in the nursing workplace: Viruses. Fungi and related diseases.  Microbes, Parasites and related diseases. Safety measures.

Principles of ergonomics in healthcare: Health complications for employees. Design and Planning of work places. Safety measures. Occupational musculoskeletal conditions and nurses.

Occupational burn-out and nurses. Nursing shift rotation schedules. Personal safety measures for nurses. Signs Space Systems.
