Learning Outcomes of the course unitBy the end of the course, the students should be able to:
  1. Analyze the basic concepts and principles of writing up a dissertation and the contribution of the research protocol in a research study.
  2. Recognise the aims and objectives of a research study, sources for searching for research hypotheses, the parameters of a research protocol, the characteristics of the research population and the creation of graphs and diagrams.
  3. Describe the criteria for choosing a research hypothesis, the structure of the research protocol and the comparison with data in bibliographies.
  4. Define the methods used in data collection.
  5. Apply skills in creating a research protocol, in the statistical analysis of research data and in creating tables, graphs and diagrams and, hypotheses.
  6. Describe, analyse and interpret the research findings.

Course Contents

Prepare and present a research study:  Students are in position ready to prepare and present a research study in front of an audience. Studies are conducted by either one student of a group of students, depending on the research topic.

Supervision: One supervisor allocated to every student or group of students with whom they meet weekly so as to discuss about their study.

Presentation: Every student is responsible for presenting a short description of their dissertation which includes the research protocol,the research hypothesis, the data and its collection methods, the analysis of data and the research findings. Each student is prepared to answer questions related to their research study.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The theoretical part of the teaching includes lectures and group assignments for comprehending the theoretical aspects and concepts regarding the research study. To support teaching whiteboards, PowerPoint presentations, images and group assignments are used so as to achieve a better understanding and comprehend the theory.
