Learning Outcomes of the course unitBy the end of the course, the students should be able to:
  1. Identify the history of architectural conservation of historic centres.
  2. Recognize the various charters of conservation and the Cypriot laws on the subject.
  3. Develop the ability to discuss philosophical ideas on conservation of historic centres or towns.
  4. Develop critical thinking.
  5. Construct personal viewpoints and ideology regarding new problems that arise in architectural conservation.
  6. Express a personal ideology and standpoint in regards to architectural conservation
  7. Show argumentative skills in speaking and writing.

-Introduction to the protection and restoration of historic settlements and towns
- Planning and architecture analysis of intervention areas
- Urban planning and design of historic towns and centres
- Present the laws that govern such interventions

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The taught part of the course is delivered to students by means of 13 lectures, conducted by electronic presentations. Lecture notes and pictures are given to students in electronic form.

Lectures are supplemented by visits to archaeological or historic sites analysis are part of the course requirements.
