Learning Outcomes of the course unitBy the end of the course, the students should be able to:
  1. examine advanced and more complex problems in Interior Design through the introduction, presentation and analysis of commercial/promotional/exhibition international structures/ projects and the application of design in Micro-architecture and Micro-Design
  2. apply new forms and innovative materials in interior design through experimentation and analysis of the functionality of space, modulation and perception.
  3. determine the commercial parameters within interior design such as possibility, promoting and presentation through extended market research, brief formulation and visual strategy planning
  4. generate specific concepts and design proposals through the acquired advanced ability of communicational presentation and the imaginative use of interior materials, finishes, furnishing and lighting
  5. support an integrated balanced interior sense with critical and professional understanding for the function, structure and material use of interior design and construction

Course Contents

Design analysis and research on Pavilion Structures: Basic history introduction with references in commercial, promotional and exhibition pavilions, structures and projects. Written and verbal briefing on spatial design through a chosen space/ site for promotional purposes.

Design analysis and research on Micro-Architecture: Basic history introduction in relation to nomadism and alternative lifestyle, free from constrains and habits. Written and verbal briefing on alternative design projects that provide protection and survival for the socially marginalized and design projects that provide intimacy, privacy and experience.

Market Research and analysis: Material use and Material innovations including applications and manufacturer information’s.

2D and 3D model and Prototype production: Model and Prototype making workshop.  2D and 3D architectural drawings production and presentation. Lighting and photographing the model workshop.  Photographic manipulation and detail architectural drawings production.

Visual Presentation and Experimentation: Presentation proposals and experimentation

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The taught part of the course is delivered by means of illustrated lectures conducted with the help of computer presentations. Lectures also include video presentations.

Lectures are supplemented with extended project briefings, student research and presentation, group critiques and individual tutorials.

Practical workshops, exercises, and discussions on critical parts of the subject. Student centered practical work, personal research, realization and manipulation in project work.
