Learning Outcomes of the course unitBy the end of the course, the students should be able to:
  1. Develop further knowledge related the photography vocabulary.
  2. Use brainstorming sessions and collect inspired personal research to visualize ideas.
  3. Use camera’s controls with confidence, experiment with light and the creative choices that are engaged before the shutter is pressed.
  4. Decode ideas and concepts into visual forms and create work which is visually exciting.
  5. Practice basic digital image retouching, using the appropriate means and tools.
  6. Identify essential photographic movements and styles and appraise work of influential photographers, in reference to technique, philosophy and concept.
  7. Recognize the differing functions of photographically generated image and develop a critical approach to its use and application.
  8. Justify the reason an image might be considered good by breaking down the criteria related to technical skills, process, concept, and presentation.

Course Contents

Continuation of learning process - General knowledge: Development of further knowledge related the photography vocabulary and photographic elements, such as depth of field, camera shake, film speed, image resolution, image sensor, megapixel and resolution. Use with confidence camera’s controls and the metering system, white balance and manual automation. Introduction computer retouch, selecting, cropping, adjustment of levels and colours. Comprehension of appropriate methods and equipments. Familiarization with different lighting methods and introduction of studio lighting.

The research process: Exploration of personal research and participation in group discussions. Analysis of visual material and identification the multiple uses of photography in relation to art and design. Consideration the differing functions of photographically generated image and development a critical approach to its use and application. Recognition of essential photographic movements and styles and appraise ion for the work of influential photographers, in reference to technique, philosophy and concept.

Project process: Undergo project briefing, written and verbal analysis. Analysis project tasks, requirements. Use brainstorming sessions to visualize ideas. Collection inspired personal research. Use the photographic skills learned with confidence, use camera’s controls, experiment with light and the creative choices that are engaged before the shutter is pressed. Practice photographic tasks. Decode ideas and concepts into visual forms and create work which is visually exciting. Practice basic digital image retouching, using the appropriate means and tools. Participation in the group critiques. Familiarization of the criteria whereby an image might be considered good and break down the criteria related to process, technique, concept and project tasks. Recognition of the importance of time management, printing quality and presentation. Receive feedback for the assessments presentation.
