Learning Outcomes of the course unitBy the end of the course, the students should be able to:
  1. Investigate different ways and techniques of visual drawings presentation
  2. Experiment with various materials, surfaces and forms and creatively employ them in time related problem solving.
  3. Find new ways in expressing familiar things.
  4. Equip students with knowledge of the theoretical and practical aspects of techniques and materials.
  5. Provide students knowledge on the concept and meaning of architecture on planning, construction, social concern and other forces, which shape design.

Course Contents

The course unit is an introduction to the materials and methods of architectural drafting, which are central to the preparation of a wide variety of drawings depicting interior design spaces

Research Methodology / Studio Work: The subject introduces students to architectural drafting and an understanding of plans, sections, elevations, perspectives and axonometric. The work will be based on drawing exercises of various interior spaces given to students where they apply their technical skills.

Presentation Skills: Development of presentation skills in order to orally communicate ideas and research findings. Participation in group discussions and debates surrounding given theme of the project.

Familiarization with basic building structures and architectural interiors: Students recognize and apply in technical drawing terms, different elements e.g. floors, walls, roofs, doors, windows etc. Furthermore an introduction to different design/drawing tools such as pens, pencils, and parallel, set squares, curves etc.

 Final Presentation: Students participate in final presentations where ideas are discussed from the initial research stage, through to concepts and final design outcomes.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The taught part of the course is delivered by means of illustrated lectures conducted with the help of computer presentations.

Lectures are supplemented with extended project briefings, practical workshops, exercises, group critiques and individual tutorials.

During student centred practical work, students are encouraged to develop personal research, realization and manipulation in project work through the creative use of computer/digital based skills and hand skills such as photography, illustration and print. Electronic image/type via Apple Macintosh or PC hardware and software can lead to alternative and unique visual solutions. The outcome is always enriched through visual research and reading.
