Learning Outcomes of the course unitBy the end of the course, the students should be able to:
  1. Record students’ personal initiation to observation, reading and thinking through architectural drawing representation.
  2. Develop students’ knowledge of the theoretical and practical aspects of techniques and materials.
  3. Analyze and acquire skills in spatial design through given elementary spaces and experiment with new forms suitable for commercial spaces.
  4. Manage specific concepts and design proposals through the acquired advanced ability of communicational presentation and the imaginative use of interior materials, finishes, furnishing and lighting.
  5. Evaluate an integrated balanced interior sense with critical and professional understanding for the function, structure and material use of interior design and construction in shop design.

Course Contents

Project analysis and research: Introduction and briefing on the ShopBiz Project. Lecture on translating an abstract concept into an alternative selling point / space.  Experimentation with the chosen object / good using various techniques.

Design Analysis and Research: On site visit at an existing store. Exploration of real space, inspiration and perception through photography and actual measurements.

2D drawing production: Translation into 2D drawing of the measurements taken. Floor plans, sections, views, axonometric view drawings.

3D model production Model making workshop.  2D and 3D architectural drawings production and presentation. Lighting and photographing the model workshop.  Photographic manipulation and detail architectural drawings production.

Visual Presentation and Experimentation: Presentation proposals and experimentation.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The taught part of the course is delivered by means of illustrated lectures conducted with the help of computer presentations. Lectures also include video presentations.

Lectures are supplemented with extended project briefings, student research and presentation, group critiques and individual tutorials.

Practical workshops, exercises, and discussions on critical parts of the subject. Student centered practical work, personal research, realization and manipulation in project work
