Learning Outcomes of the course unitBy the end of the course, the students should be able to:
  1. Demonstrate a comprehensive foundation in photography in all its aspects in relation to art and design. Express proficiency in its use, of both its craft and technology, and develop confidence to direct others.
  2. Recognize the medium as an art form and a vehicle of ideas and show advance knowledge of key concepts, movements and styles and recognise significant photographers and their work.
  3. Identify the power of photographic image while appreciate the infinite variety of perception, interpretation and execution photography medium offers. Examine and experiment with personal research, in order to design fresh up to date ideas and develop personal expression, aspiration and individuality.
  4. Identify that critical mind, creative thinking and individuality are essentials in designing with photography.
  5. Compose using communication skills and express critical and self-critical abilities. Imagine, decode, design, create and edit sophisticated concepts into visual forms.
  6. Value quality and express personal views. Debate in participation in group critiques with critical mind.

Course Contents

Technical knowledge: Development of proficiency in the use of photography, both in its craft and technology.

The research process: Exploration of research activity and participation in analysis of research in group discussions. Examine and explore research in order to gain information, inspiration and find answers in communication problems. Look at contemporary photographic image and analyse the codes used to create illustrative and clear meanings. Identify the importance of interpretation and execution in photographic process. Recognise of key concepts, movements and styles and analysis of significant photographers and their work. Appraise the medium as a vehicle of communication and develop a critical approach to its use and application.

Project process: Undergo project briefing, written and verbal analysis. Analysis project tasks, requirements. Use brainstorming sessions and build inspired personal research to visualize fresh ideas. Engagement and development of visual diaries with gathered information, observations, personal visual experimentation, sketches with ideas and thoughts in order to expand on ideas and develop personal expression and individuality. Apply photographic experimentation and translation of sophisticated concepts into photographic illustrations. Imagine, decode, design, create and edit photographic illustrations using craft and technology. Develop of personal expression and interpretation of ideas into visual forms with critical and self-critical abilities Recognize the importance of interpretation and execution in photographic process. Solve communication and technical problems skilfully. Recognize the printing techniques and the importance of presentation level. Present final photographic illustrations considering the communication and execution process, personal expression and conceptual thinking, as well to presentation level. Concern for quality and express personal views.
