Learning Outcomes of the course unitBy the end of the course, the students should be able to:
  1. Recognize information related to the basic studio lighting vocabulary and use studio lighting and facility with confidence.
  2. Identify knowledge related to photographic framework and distinguish the various aspects of the visual culture, photography is embedded in.
  3. Apply the medium as a vehicle of communication. Analyze the diverse functions of photographically generated image and develop a critical approach to its use and application.
  4. Analyse personal research and experimentation in order to expand on ideas and develop personal expression and individuality.
  5. Imagine, create, compose and edit influential images using craft and technology with critical and self-critical abilities. Resolve communication and technical problem skillfully.
  6. Justify final photographic illustrations considering the communication and execution process, personal expression and conceptual thinking, as well the presentation. Evaluate work in group critiques with critical mind.

Course Contents

Technical knowledge: Development of further knowledge related to photographic vocabulary, technique and equipment. Show confidence in the use of photography, both its craft and technology. Recognition of information related to the basic studio lighting vocabulary and facility, such as background system, props, soft box, light table and umbrellas boomerang, tubes and reflectors. Use new lighting techniques, such as continuous lighting, tungsten, flash lighting, spot, soft, reflected light.

The research process: Exploration of research activity and participation in analysis of research in group discussions. Identification of the codes used in the achievement of clear communication, in the art and design process. Examine the theory and history of photography throughout the master works. Extension knowledge related to photographic framework and identification of the various aspects of the visual culture, photography is embedded in. Appraise the differing functions of photographically generated image and develop a critical approach to its use and application. Appraise the medium as a vehicle of communication.

Project process: Undergo project briefing, written and verbal analysis. Analysis project tasks, requirements. Use brainstorming sessions and collection of inspired personal research in order to expand on fresh ideas. Develop visual personal research with personal photographic experimentation. Imagine, create, compose and edit photographic illustrations using craft and technology. Develop of personal expression and interpretation of ideas into visual forms with critical and self-critical abilities Recognize the importance of interpretation and execution in photographic process. Solve communication and technical problems skilfully. Recognize the printing techniques and the importance of presentation level. Present final photographic illustrations considering the communication and execution process, personal expression and conceptual thinking, as well to presentation level. Participation in group critiques with critical mind. Receive feedback for the assessments presentation.
