Learning Outcomes of the course unitBy the end of the course, the students should be able to:
  1. Describe the basic principles of Investigative Journalism and the qualities it requires.
  2. Explain how opportunities for investigations can be found and pursued, how informants can be persuaded to yield information and how and where the information can be checked.
  3. Describe the dangers and legal constraints investigators face.
  4. Evaluate case studies, based on works of famous investigative journalists.
  5. Investigate and describe an investigative journalism’s story.

What is investigative reporting. Establishing the facts. News: the hidden areas. General, specialist and investigative reporting. What an investigative report needs

The making of an investigative reporter. Qualities required. The path to investigation.

Finding the Stories. Contacts, Windows on hidden places, Links with the past.
