Learning Outcomes of the course unitBy the end of the course, the students should be able to:
  1. Identify the principles inherent in the writing of a scientific research paper, analyse a research question, research the topic and analyze the individual subject, research methodologies in architecture: eg surveying / typologies, bibliographical research (books, newspapers ,magazines), questionnaires / social research, explore scientific sources, examine information found on the internet.
  2. Comprehend and write about the methodology used in the research that led to the final solution.
  3. Apply the information gathered on the subject matter from a wide range of sources, into a structured layout.
  4. Analyse the gathered material and summarize own opinion on the research thesis with a personable manner in accordance to the regulations governing a research study.
  5. Prepare and present research in power point form. Identify the main points of the synopsis of the thesis in order to relate them to the presentation in oral form.

Course Contents The course aims to take the student through the design methodology necessary to complete the diploma design project. The various parts of the initial aim, analysis (typology and site)  the main concept,  the materialization of the design of the main concept are pointed out, followed through, supervised, and improved during the semester  in order to enrich the potential of the analysis, and presentation techniques of the student’s drawing diploma work, as well as improve the way he describes his main ideas, sequence of thought process and composition in oral and drawing presentation. Through examples presented, the class will aim to show the variety of techniques possible for each of the three studio directions and to maximize the work’s potential.

    Planned learning activities and teaching methods The taught part of the course is delivered to students by means of lectures, conducted by electronic presentations. Many examples of older research papers are presented.
    Lectures are supplemented by visiting lecturers/presenters .
