Learning Outcomes of the course unitBy the end of the course, the students should be able to:
  1. Define general ideas related to design and architectural processes.
  2. Identify the principles that guide aesthetics, scale, proportions, materiality and recognize how these relate to the design process.
  3. Apply drawing, model making and photography skills in order to develop a methodology toward solving compositional and conceptual problems.
  4. Analyze a set of given parameters and recognize their significance towards identifying architectural issues.
  5. Create a small scale 3-dimensional space that satisfies’s both aesthetic and simple programmatic requirements
  6. Evaluate the outcome of their work, justify their proposed solutions and appraise the significance of the architectural process towards the invention and expression of innovative ideas and problem solving.

Course Contents 

An introduction to the general principles of design.

 A comprehensive exploration of model making techniques and concepts designed to expand student’s ability to comprehend 3-dimensional space and to expose students to issues relevant to contemporary architecture.

An intensive focus on experimentation, methodology and exploration of various methods of making 3-dimentional space as a vehicle of personal expression, thought and creative discourse.

Exploration of the subject of creating space through lectures, discussions and critiques. Discussions will focus on the significance of oral and visual communication skills for effective presentations and the expression of ideas.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is delivered to the students by means of lectures, demonstrations, workshops, drawing & model making exercises, written and aural presentations. Students work in studio through personal tutoring, group critiques and final assessments.
