  5. List the interactions between the architectural design and regulations, organizations and industries

Course Contents

Introduction to the terms of society and sociology: Definition of society and overview of the main sociological approaches regarding space and the city.

Space as means of control: The use of space as a tool for manipulation. The typological formation of institutions such as prisons, hospitals, factories. Investigations regarding monuments and symbolic spaces.

The experience of space: Ways and modes of space perception. The use of mental maps as means of representing space according to selected physical elements.

City and society:  Contemporary theories for the city. 20th century urban utopias for societies of the future.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The taught part of the course is delivered to students by means of lectures, conducted by electronic presentations. Lecture notes and pictures are given to students in electronic form.

Lectures are supplemented by assignments for students to investigate different modes of interaction through city mappings and also bibliographical research.
