Course Contents |
Introduction to the cypriot environment: The materials, the natural forces as well as the landscape that formed the architecture in the various areas mountains, hills and the plains. Local rural architecture of Cyprus: ?he theory and the techniques and technologies of building in rural Cyprus used by the local people. Urban traditional architecture: The formation of the urban architecture as a development from the rural architecture with historical and other cultural factors affecting its development. What techniques and material were used in the urban settings. Typology and Morphology of the local architecture: How its is formed both by the people as well as the environment and the locality. Historical analysis: The development and impact of the various historical periods in Cyprus such as the gothic, the venetian the ottoman etc | ||||||||

Planned learning activities and teaching methods |
The taught part of the course is delivered to students by means of lectures, conducted by electronic presentations. Lecture notes and pictures are given to students in electronic form. Lectures are supplemented by field trips to villages and cities where students study typology and morphology of traditional architecture and deliver their analysis as part of the course requirements. | ||||||||
