Learning Outcomes of the course unitBy the end of the course, the students should be able to:
  1. Recognize the architecture and art of the renaissance up until the age of Romanticism in Italy, Flanders Spain, France and the Austro-German empire and analyse the theories, techniques, technologies and materials of their creators
  2. Identify the main building typologies and morphologies of the different periods between the 15th-18th centuries and their relationship to their art philosophy, culture and civilization .
  3. Identify the principles inherent in the concepts of form and space for the renaissance, baroque, rococo and romantic architect, as well as understand the continuation of the these principles from one period to the next.
  4. Collect, investigate and record information on historical and theoretical issues from a wide range of sources.
  5. Develop the ability to participate in multidisciplinary teams

Course Contents

The Renaissance and Mannerism: ?he theory, techniques, materials and technologies of building and art in the renaissance of Italy and its reverberation in neighbouring countries such as Flanders and Spain

Baroque architecture and art: ?he theory, techniques and technologies of building and art of the baroque era.

Rococo and Romanticism: ?he theory, techniques and technologies of building and art in the Rococo and Romantic era in europe.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The taught part of the course is delivered to students by means of lectures, conducted by electronic presentations. Lecture notes and pictures are given to students in electronic form.

Lectures are supplemented by field trips to antiquities on the island and abroad ( Rome)
