Learning Outcomes of the course unitBy the end of the course, the students should be able to:
  1. Explain the structure of the institutional framework of Architect’s profession.
  2. Navigate through the basic modules of the institutional framework.
  3. Describe the obligations and rights of the professional Architect.
  4. Explain the structural logic of the institutional framework so as to follow its future transformations.
  5. List the basic regulations in Cyprus that condition the manufacture of structural work.
  6. List the basic tools that are used in the town plan system in Cyprus.
  7. List the basic actions that are made in order to get a building permit for a Project in Cyprus.

Course Contents

Practicing the Architect’s profession. Technical Chamber of Cyprus, Rules of ethics. Professional Associations.

Contract between Client and Architect.

Construction Contracts. Architects Obligations and rights during supervision of a Project.

Town plan system in Cyprus. Tools of the town plan system, Authorization procedure.

Regulations for Buildings in Cyprus. Local authorities. Authorization procedure, Regulations about accessibility of Buildings. Fire safety regulations.

Health and Safety in Construction. Regulations about health and safety. Plan of health and safety at the stage of planning and at the stage of construction

Regulations about the energy performance of the Buildings. Energy performance certificate of a building

Institutional Framework in Europe. Example of another European Country – United Kingdom.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The taught part of the course is delivered to students by means of lectures, conducted by electronic presentations. Lecture notes are given to students in electronic form.

Lectures are supplemented by presentations given by invited visitors specialised to the subject.
