  2. Prepare and illustrate the goals of the research of the specific building Construct the placement on the paper of the information that needs to be conveyed in an orderly and logical fashion.
  3. Investigate the quantitative and qualitative aspects that dictate the building type, prepare a summary of the architectural program for the building type
  4. Recognize and present other demands that such a building type would have in terms of layout, use, morphological features etc.

Research the building typology:

This step is necessary especially if the student is working on this type of building for the first time. The student should be familiar with some of the following major elements:
The types of sites often include the type of building

The relationship of the sites for these functions

The formal requirements of the land for the type of project

Regional issues that could alter the accuracy of the above, Technical, mechanical, electrical, safety or other issues unique to the type of project, issues relating to building form the type of building, what are the surroundings and what consequences this may have on the project, historical-sociological aspect

Establishing Goals:
Organizational Goals: What are the objectives of the "owners” They see their organization, how does this fit into architectural work this broad picture, aims and Format: What should be the aesthetic and psychological impact of design,  how should relate to the environment,  the form is similar to or different from their neighbors, There is historical, cultural and environmental context that will be affected; mind;? Operation Objectives: What important functions take place in the building? What number of people be using it, what is the attitude towards resource conservation and sustainability (energy, water, etc.) what kind of changes are expected

Collection of relevant information;
Enabling users, activities and programs: Who does what, how many people do each activity, and when  do they do it, What equipment is needed for the activities to function properly,  What is the size of the equipment, if any;
What are the criteria of space - (planning restrictions, square meters per person or unit) for the functions to be held
,
What is the possible structural organization of the building

What other design criteria may affect planning: Access to daylight, acoustics, accessibility guidelines for the planning area based on historic preservation, etc, Guidelines for the design, based on traffic (buses, cars and pedestrians),Flora and fauna surrounding area

Program development:
(bubble diagram) These diagrams show the functions that should be close to each other, Diagrammatic relations can also show the desired traffic connections between sites, or sites and required security or sound insulation, etc.  Other types of strategy include Concentration and decentralization: What work / grouped and which must be separated
Flexibility etc

Perception of requirements / quantities:

The criteria of the premises (number of square meters per person or unit), circulation requirements, spaces, etc.
Flow: What goods, services, people move through the project?
Priorities: What are the most important functions of the project? What could be added later? There are existing buildings to be retained; Levels of access: Who is right? What levels of security there?

Planned learning activities and teaching methodsThe course is taught through lectures conducted through power point presentations and numerous examples that are presented and then analysed to identify good and bad techniques. Lectures notes and the presentations are available to the students in electronic form. Lectures are supplemented with recently graduated architects presentations, in order for the students to view the process and the final result, seeing in real life, potential problems that might have risen during the preparation of the thesis
