PhD in Engineering

The PhD in Engineering Program is a research-based program offered by the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences that provides a framework for state-of-the-art research in the various domains the School is involved with. Its aim is to pursue research and advance knowledge, extending the boundaries of what is known. The program is central to fulfilling the School and the University mission through advancing its research dimension and enabling the establishment of the University in the regional and international scene.

The aim of the program is to develop engineers with the necessary background knowledge, skills, experience, ethos and capabilities that will enable them to contribute and advance knowledge in their particular domain of interest, thus serving the overall development of the society.

Specifically, the program aims to develop engineers who are capable of demonstrating innovation to address strategic and important problems in their particular field of expertise. This will be facilitated through the provision of an integrated curriculum of theory, application and research.


Program Directions

The program can consider any section of the applied/theoretical spectrum allowing students to engage in an academic endeavor that they wish. However, in its current state, the program only accepts doctoral students in the general directions of its two postgraduate programs, namely:
